Will over the counter products work on pubic lice?

I know this is gross, but will over the counter products work on pubic lice? Or should I just go see the doctor and have the prescribe something? Also, I have no idea where I could have picked these up, because I haven't had ual contact with anyone in a long, LONG time. Is it possible to pick them up from a toilet seat or toilet paper? I work in very unsanitary conditions and I'm wondering if I couldn't have picked them up from there some how. I have them on my chest, stomach, and ocks mostly (I'm a guy, so I have lots of pubes). If they did come from my work environment, should I say something to my boss or what should I do? I honestly don't know of any other place I could have picked them up :/
