Is he going to be OK?

I am going to adopt this beardie named Peg leg (he only has three feet) but I am kind of worried because he is being kept on sand. Playsand. I have heard a lot of scary stories about beardies dieing from sand impaction. I am going to keep him on news aper and pet carpet but I want to use tile because I hear it's really greta but I don't know 1) if I can afford it 2) where to get it and 3) how to figure out what size I need. I am only 14 years old and my parents are not a great help at all and I don't even know if they will drive me anywhere to far to get it. Is Pet carpet hard to clean? I used is once but I had a problem with it because the crickets kept crawling under neath it.
